The Parliament of Sri Lanka, on 20^th July 2022, elected Mr. Ranil Wickremesinghe as the 8^th Executive President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka under the provisions of the Presidential Elections (Special Provisions) Act, No. 2 of 1981, following the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on 14 July 2022.
