Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) ship’s crew of P 627 joined the 71st anniversary celebrations of the SLN in Seattle, United States on 9 December 2021.
SLN acquired this ship from the United States Coastguard (USCG) in October 2021. The traditional meal partaking of ‘Badakana’ was also held with the attendance of USCG personnel including the Commanding Officer of the USCG Base, Seattle - Captain Ibrahim Khalil along with the officers and sailors of P 627.
After acquisition formalities, maintenance and scheduled repairs, P 627 is scheduled to sail home to Sri Lanka in mid-2022.
Meanwhile, SLN officially took the delivery of the former United States Coastguard Cutter, formerly known as USCGC Douglas Munro on 26 October 2021 under the pennant number P 627. The ship crew is currently undergoing training and engaged in acquisition formalities, maintenance, scheduled repairs and installations of the ship at the USCG Base, Seattle.
The ship’s crew is led by Commanding Officer (designate) P 627 Captain Lanka Dissanayake. Meanwhile, in connection with these celebrations, an almsgiving and pirikara offering for the Maha Sangha at ‘Sarana’ International Buddhist Centre in Seattle was held on Monday (6). On SLN Day - 9 December, lunch was served to an institution run by the Catholic Community Services in Seattle.
