His Excellency Joseph R. Biden
President of the United States of America
Your Excellency,
The Government and the people of Sri Lanka join me in extending our warm congratulations and sincere best wishes to you, the Government and the people of the United States on the happy occasion of the 245th anniversary of Independence of the United States of America.
Relations between Sri Lanka and the United States have stood the test of time, firmly grounded in an abiding commitment to democratic governance, mutual respect, shared values and common interests, reinforced by enhanced cooperation in the economic, defence and security fields, as well as cultural and educational exchanges and growing people-to-people contacts. In recent times, we particularly note with sincere appreciation the generosity of the United States, under your stewardship, in offering millions of doses of surplus vaccines to countries across the world, including Sri Lanka, to combat the global COVID-19 pandemic.
I am confident that our multifaceted relations will continue to grow in scope, character and value for the mutual benefit of our two countries and peoples. As the Government of Sri Lanka forges ahead to usher in a bright and prosperous future for our people, I look forward with optimism to continuing and expanding our longstanding partnership of friendship and cooperation with the United States.
As the American people celebrate the Fourth of July Independence Day, please accept, Excellency, my best wishes for your health, happiness and personal wellbeing, as well as for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of the United States of America.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa
President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka
