
The United States has donated the 4th U.S. Coast Guard Cutter which is a 210’ medium endurance cutter to the Sri Lanka Navy. The transfer ceremony took place at the U.S. Coast Guard yard in Baltimore, Maryland on the 2nd of December, 2025. The donation of the 4th U.S. Coast Guard Cutter is a demonstration of the excellent bilateral relations that exist between Sri Lanka and the U.S. and growing U.S.-Sri Lanka defence collaboration in the spheres of maritime surveillance, peace and security, training and capacity building in the area of search and rescue and disaster response, and working together to ensure freedom of navigation in the Indo-Pacific region. The United States has also been one of the first countries to respond to the call for assistance during the recent flood devastation that took place in Sri Lanka with substantial assistance at a time of need to the people of Sri Lanka. We thank the United States and its people for always being there for Sri Lanka at times of need.
The U.S. side was represented by OSW, Andrew Byers, Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for South and Southeast Asia, DOS SCA, Bethany Morrison, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of South and Central Asia, DOS PM, Greg Hermsmeyer, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Regional Security, NIPO, Mr. Bill Carty, Executive Director, MTNG, Brig. Gen. Trenton Gibson, Adjutant General.
H.E. Mahinda Samarasinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United States, Vice Admiral B.A.K.S.P. Banagoda, RSP, USP, ndc, psc, the Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy, Commodore Dumindu Abeywickrama, Defense Advisor of the Embassy, Commanding Officer along with the ship’s crew of the 4th Coast Guard Cutter participated at this signing ceremony.
