The Government of Sri Lanka issued the first residence visa under the 'Individual Investor Category', yesterday (01.10.2025).  This visa was awarded to Dr. Prey Drechsel, a  German national, by the Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala. 

The Individual Investor Category scheme permits foreign nationals to qualify for a five-year visa with an investment of $100,000, or a ten-year visa with an investment of $200,000 which is deposited in a Visa Program Foreign Currency Account (VPFCA) at a licensed Sri Lankan bank. The initiative aims to attract foreign capital by linking long-term residency to direct investment.
