The Government of Sri Lanka has declared Saturday, 26 April 2025, as a National Day of Mourning, in solemn commemoration of the passing of His Holiness Pope Francis. The declaration coincides with the official funeral proceedings of His Holiness, to be held at Saint Peter’s Square, Vatican City, on the same day.

In accordance with the directive issued by the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington, D.C. will fly the National Flag at half-mast on 26 April 2025 as a mark of respect.

The Honourable Vijitha Herath, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, will represent the Government of Sri Lanka at the funeral of His Holiness Pope Francis.
