The Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington, D.C. is pleased to announce the successful establishment of an academic partnership between NSBM Green University, Sri Lanka, and American University (AU), Washington, D.C., marking a significant milestone in U.S.-Sri Lanka educational collaboration.

This landmark initiative, spearheaded by the Embassy under the leadership of Mahinda Samarasinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the United States has resulted in the creation of an exclusive Transfer Pathway Program for Sri Lankan students. Through this program, students enrolled at NSBM will have the opportunity to transfer to American University to complete a U.S.-accredited bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

The official signing ceremony took place on 4 April 2025 at NSBM Green University in Homagama, Sri Lanka, in the presence of Julie Chung, U.S. Ambassador to Sri Lanka. The agreement was formally signed by Thilini De Silva, Acting Vice Chancellor and Dean of the Faculty of Business at NSBM, and Tashina Giraud, Director of International Partnerships and Strategic Initiatives at American University.

This partnership is yet another testament to the Embassy’s ongoing efforts to broaden educational and institutional linkages between Sri Lanka and the United States. It also reflects the mutual commitment of both nations to fostering affordable, high-quality, and globally competitive educational opportunities for Sri Lankan youth.

Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe commended the collaborative spirit of both institutions and expressed confidence that this initiative will pave the way for future academic and research partnerships between Sri Lankan and U.S. universities.

The Embassy extends its sincere appreciation to American University and NSBM Green University for their proactive engagement and shared vision in making this partnership a reality.
