The Mahamevnawa Buddha Meditation Center of Greater Washington D.C., under the leadership of Chief Incumbent Ven. Thalawe Damitha Bodhi celebrated its annual Katina Ceremony on 02nd November 2024.
This sacred occasion, marking the conclusion of the Vassa or "Rainy Season Retreat," signifies the monks' three-month period of intensive meditation and spiritual discipline. Katina is an opportunity for lay devotees to present the revered "Katina" Cheevara and alms to the monastic community, embodying gratitude and fostering merit-making, generosity, and devotion.
The ceremony commenced with a dignified robe procession, followed by Buddha Pooja, Sangha almsgiving, and a communal lunch provided for all attendees. Participants engaged in chanting, making offerings, and reflecting on the Buddha’s teachings of compassion, wisdom, and kindness.
The event organized by Roshan Weerasinghe and family, attracted a large gathering of devotees from the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, exemplifying a strong community spirit and appreciation for the monastic tradition. Ambassador Mahinda Samarasinghe and the embassy officials also attended the meritorious event.
