On 30th October 2024, the Embassy of Sri Lanka hosted a vibrant Deepavali celebration, honouring the festival of lights with the esteemed presence of Kurukkul Shankaran Sivacharyar, a priest from the Sri Siva Vishnu Temple in Maryland.
The event featured traditional Hindu rituals, where Kurukkal Sivacharyar invoked blessings to the Ambassador and the Embassy staff and wishing prosperity to all Sri Lankans. The premises were adorned with intricate 'Kolam' designs and illuminated by lamps, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere.
The Sri Lankan Ambassador to the United States, Mahinda Samarasinghe extended heartfelt greetings to Hindu devotees, emphasizing the significance of Deepavali as a celebration of knowledge triumphing over ignorance, and light prevailing over darkness.
The celebrations highlighted the spirit of unity and friendship within the diverse Sri Lankan community, reinforcing the values of the festival, victory of good over evil and the dispelling of negativity. Deepavali is not only a time for joyous gatherings and gift-giving among loved ones but also a reminder to illuminate our inner selves with positivity and clarity.
