Having known President-elect Anura Kumara Dissanayake for over two decades in Parliament as a colleague and appreciating his contribution to thoughtful legislative debate in a constructive spirit of democratic discourse, it is greatly encouraging to note his commitment to the creation of a new political culture in Sri Lanka. His victory in a free and fair election that was devoid of pre and post-election violence, and the orderly and peaceful transition of power subsequently, immensely assists in enhancing Sri Lanka’s image and standing as a democratic member of the international community. The Embassy of Sri Lanka to the United States is committed to continue strengthening our ties with important governmental institutions as well as international financial institutions based in the United States, in order to further enhance cooperation to support Sri Lanka’s recovery and future advancement, in line with the President-elect’s policy priorities. Over the past 2 years and 9 months of my tenure as Ambassador, my team has ensured that Sri Lanka has benefitted from these enhanced ties of friendly cooperation. I offer my sincere congratulations to President–elect Dissanayake and all of us at this Embassy look forward to working with him to fulfil his vision for a peaceful, prosperous and brighter future for all Sri Lankans.
