Washington Educational and Cultural Attaché Association (WECAA) in association with the office of DC Mayor Muriel Bowser launched the first ‘DC Diplomatic Day of Kindness’ on 08th November 2023 at Covenant House in Washington D.C. as a new initiative aimed at fostering goodwill and community engagement.
The DC Diplomatic Day of Kindness was an opportunity for Foreign Missions to make a positive impact in their home city of Washington, D.C. This event marked the beginning of an ongoing annual tradition. Kimberly A. Bassett, Secretary of District of Columbia read the Mayor’s Proclamation during the celebration. The Covenant House is a renowned non-profit organization in Washington, D.C. Over 20 Foreign Missions based in Washington D.C. and International Trade Center in D.C. generously volunteered their time and resources to engage with the residents of Covenant House along with international food, entertainment, and engaging with residents of Covenant House. Sri Lanka was also represented with a savoury dish whilst donating essential items for its residents. Counselor Chathuri Perera represented the Embassy at the day of celebration.
Covenant House is a non-profit organization that serves as a refuge for Washington, D.C. youth, providing essential assistance and resources to help them rebuild their lives and secure a brighter future. WECCA is an organization that brings together Embassy cultural and educational attaches for professional development, education, networking and contributing to the community. It is a member organization based in Washington, D.C.
