Providing Relief Assistance to Flood Victims in Sri Lanka

The Embassy of Sri Lanka conveys sincere gratitude to all donors for their humanitarian support and generous contributions to the people affected by the recent devastating floods and landslides in Sri Lanka.

The Government of Sri Lanka has so far received a considerable amount of donations/ relief material from many States, donor agencies and individuals and has effectively distributed humanitarian relief materials to the affected people in the immediate relief phase.

Authorities in Sri Lanka has now withdrawn the duty waiver granted to clear the consignments of consumable relief materials sent to the Ministry of Disaster Management. Therefore, with immediate effect, the Ministry of Disaster Management will not accept any consumable relief material related to the flood disaster.

Government agencies in Sri Lanka has now commenced the post recovery operations including housing re-construction and infrastructure rehabilitation work, and therefore only welcome financial donations at this stage.

In response to the appeal by this Embassy, the following donors from the United States public have so far made financial contributions for the flood relief operation through the Embassy.

The well-wishers living in the United States can continue to make financial contributions to the post recovery operations in Sri Lanka through the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington DC by making direct financial contributions.  The Embassy accepts cheques or money orders drawn out in favor of the “Embassy of Sri Lanka”.  All such contributions will be acknowledged by an official receipt by the Embassy as Contributions to Flood Relief and will be transmitted to the Disaster Relief Account  operated by the Ministry of Disaster Management.
