The government of Sri Lanka on Aug. 1 issued a 169-page report detailing the final months of its conflict against the terrorist group Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a document that offers step-by-step analysis of some of the most critical actions in the long-running war, including the rescue of nearly 300,000 civilians held hostage by the LTTE. Specifically, the new report discusses in detail the steps taken by Sri Lankan forces to create escape paths for civilians held by the LTTE, and how the civilians were safeguarded after their rescue.
