In an attempt to directly approach US consumers, the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Washington DC participated in a travel fair held at the Holiday Park Senior Center in Wheaton, Maryland on October 5. The travel fair targeted to educate senior citizens of the area on travel opportunities and resources available was organized for the first time.
Displayed at the Sri Lanka stall were images and promotional videos illustrating the beauty and rich cultural heritage of the country and highlighting the potential Sri Lanka has to become a global tourist destination. The stall also featured Sri Lankan handicrafts batik and Ceylon Tea.
Traditional Sri Lankan food, such as milk rice was served to every visitor. Ceylon Tea was also served with a view to promoting “Pure Ceylon Tea” in the United States.
Many visitors inquired about the tourist attractions in Sri Lanka and showed interest in selecting Sri Lanka as their next overseas holiday destination.
The Holiday Park Senior Center is a multi-service institution of the Montgomery Department of Recreation in the US State of Maryland. The center serves more than 500 senior citizens over the age of 55.
